98 days                                    Delivery of resolution to County Superintendent of Schools from County Board

of Education, specifying date and purpose of election.  May be delivered with

order of election but not later than 98 days prior to election.  (E.C.5322)

 

110 – 70 days                          Publication by county clerk through a general press release of Information

regarding district election.  (E.C. 5326)

 

89 – 68 (63) days                    Nominating Period Open:  The name of any registered voter shall be placed on                  the ballot, if there is filed with the county clerk having jurisdiction, a declaration               of candidacy substantially in the form set forth in Education Code 5032(a), filled                  out and bearing the signature of the voter whose name is to appear on the ballot.

If the incumbent fails to file by 5:00 p.m. on the 68th day before the election,                     voters shall have until 5:00 p.m. on the 63rd day before an election to nominate                   candidates other than the incumbent.  (E.C. 5012.5)

 

78 – 71 days (63)                    Notice of Insufficient Nominees:  The county clerk shall publish a notice once in a

newspaper of general circulation in the county that at the time of submission to                  the paper there were no, or only one, nominations for Board member, or fewer

nominations that there are positions open and that if by the 63rd day before the

election no petition is receiving asking for a County Board of Education election,

the County Board of Education may appoint qualified members as provided in

Education Code 5328.  (E.C. 5326, 5327)

 

95 days                                    Last date for County Superintendent of Schools to deliver formal Notice of                       election and order of election to county clerk or registrar of voters.  (E.C. 5323,                 5324)

 

68 days                                    Withdrawal of Candidates:  Last date for any candidate to withdraw as a                           candidate.  (E.C. 5012)

 

95 days                                    Last date for County Superintendent of Schools to deliver formal

63                                            Insufficient Nominations:  If on this date only one or no candidate

Has been nominated for an elective position, or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to be filled (if members are elected at large), no election shall be held, and the qualified person or persons nominated shall be seated at the organizational meeting of the Board.  If no person has been nominated, the County Board of Education shall appoint a qualified person or persons to the Board at a meeting prior to the day fixed for the election and the appointees shall be seated at the organizational meeting of the Board as if elected at an election.  However, if on or before the 63rd day before the election a petition is presented signed by 10% of the voters or by 100 voters, whichever is smaller, requesting the election, it shall be held.  (E.C.5326, 5327,5328)

 

29 days                                    Close of Registration: Last day to registration to be effective for election.  (Election Code 305)

 

29-27 days                              Absent Voter Application: First and last dates.  Applications received by registrar 60 days prior to election will be held and processed 30 days prior to election (first day absence ballots available).  (Election Code 1002, et. Seq., 1017)

 

8 days                                      Declaration of Write-In Candidacy, Last Day:  No later than this day, any qualified person desiring to be a write-in candidate must  file no later than 8 days prior to election a “declaration of candidacy” with the registrar to cause write-in voters for such person to be tallied.  (Election Code 17101,57)

 

0 days                                      Election Day: Polls open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
